Mel's Journey to becoming Raw!

Hi there, my name is Melissa, and I'm starting this journal because I've made the decision to finally go raw. I've gone raw in the past, with great results. I just need to surround myself with supportive people, and stick to what I know is the right choice for me. :O)

Getting back on track

I realized that I haven't kept up with this in forever, so it's time to get back on track.

I have had such a hard time with wrapping my mind around a few things. On one hand, I would go raw and absolutely love how I felt. But there was an incongruency because my ideal body, the one I want more than anything, is the women in Oxygen magazine. And everything I kept coming across said you have to eat protein, you have to eat this and this. And so I felt so divided. And I finally made peace with it this morning. Because I don't feel right about eating meat. I don't feel right about contributing the harm of something else. And at the end of the day, if you eat something and then feel intense guilt about it, how is that serving you? Eating should be a joyful experience. and I realized that I could get my so called "protein" in a way that was more in tune with the life I desperately want to live. And I feel so much PEACE knowing it's going to be ok. There's no more stress. I can have the body of my dreams, I just have to work for it. I have to fuel my body with the absolute best food for me, and I have to get off my ass. LOL

I started P90X last week. But I let myself get so intimidated that I quit! I let my fear tell me I couldn't do the program. I could, if I just put my mind to it. So I start it again tomorrow. I'll post my results during my transition.

I'm going to transition back to Vegan, so I'm hoping the detox won't be too bad.

Today I had one egg, two egg whites scrambled with two pieces of ezekial bread.

Down a jean size!

Well it's official. I am down a size in jeans! Hell freakin yeah! LOL I've been really good with eating more raw foods. I have cut out caffeine, and am only drinking it couple times on the weekend. I'm probably sitting at 70-60% raw. I have plans on upping it to around 85%. I'm doing green smoothies of a morning, with superfoods that I have on hand. I've been eating Persimmons like MAD. LOL My son this morning looked at me and said, "Mom...why are you eating a tomato for breakfast?" LOL Had to explain to him what a Persimmon was. Once I buy them they don't stay in the house long. LOL

I've been working out to my Turbo Jam. Oh, I bought my Hoopnotica DVD! I am so ecstatic I can't contain myself. LOL If any of you reading this have ever wanted to do something fun for exercise, you HAVE to check out this website: www.hoopnotica.com Also check them out on Youtube. It's some sexy stuff! LOL

Well, I'm going to go home (I'm at a coffeeshop) and reorganize my office, and get a reading nook set up. I also need to go drink my water...

Oh yeah. I start my cleanse again today. And I'm going to Burning Man this year! WOOOOT!

Still at it...

Well I'm still doing it! It's been a transition. And I didn't go raw 100 off the bat because the detox would have been a bitch. I've been doing more smoothies. Once I figured out raw cacao and maca were high in fat, I transitioned them out until I've lost more weight. Or I'll do them as a special treat. :O) I was also not paying attention on how much to use, and using WAYYYY too much, which also contributed to my three pound weight gain, which I'm happy to say I've already lost. *grin* I'm getting more creative with the types of foods I'm eating. And I'm working on cutting out the foods from work which I really need to do. If I bring stuff to work like I did last night, it will help me. I ate a salad from work last night because I had fogotten I had brought those persimmons. *rolls eyes* But oh my god the asian market! They had Durians! And crates full of persimmons. I stocked up on young coconuts, fresh greens and veggies, and a few different types of fruit. I'm a very happy girl right now. We're eating Asian tonight and I am planning on having a salad, and *maybe* an eggroll if Bri makes them, which I'm sure he will. But I have that awesome asian salad I made. Here's what I did:

Marinade:
Honey
Nama Shoyu
Sesame Oil
Cayenne
Garlic
Ginger
Scallions
Cilantro
Lemon Juice

In a bowl I added:
chopped Bok Choy
watercress
purple cabbage
Raddichio
chives
carrots
Bean Sprouts
Sesame Seeds
Enoki Mushrooms

I poured the marinade over the veggies and let it sit for a couple of hours, turning it a couple of times. It was awesome! :O)

I finished up yesterday pretty good. I did take Donovan to Reale's. After I ate there, I was literally exausted and took a quick nap. Finished up the night with a salad at work. I woke up pretty tired due to my work schedule. Working nights and getting up with the kids is tough. Having a week off really threw my whole schedule off, but it's cool. This morning I am going to have a breakfast smoothie. I might throw in a little cacao or maca. The maca that I had yesterday seemed to taste really bitter, so I'm going to eat less this time so I can stomach it. LOL

For sprouts, I'm starting lentil and mung this morning. :O)

I'm excited!

So I just got back from Whole Foods, and picked up a few things I've *really* been wanting to buy the last couple of months. I was able to find Maca, Mesquite, and Caoco powder! I'm super stoked. Also grabbed a couple of young coconuts, field greens, cucumbers, watercress, mangos, oranges, banannas, grapefruit, and apples. Tomorrow I'm going to make some kind of smoothie with the maca, caoco, rice milk, and banannas. My plan is to have a big salad for lunch, and I'm still trying to figure out what I'll have for dinner. Maybe a fruit salad?? Tonight I'm finishing up eating the garden burger in my freezer. I topped it with an organic whole wheat bun, organic tomatoes, watercress, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, avocado, and zesty sprouts. I know it's not raw, but it's better to eat this than the beef chili my husband has on the stove. Yuck! It didn't even smell good. I have had alot of people telling me that going cold turkey is pretty brutal. So I'm just going to take it one day at a time and just eat as healthy as possible. :O)

So I have changed this blog to reflect my recent changes in my diet to becoming raw. So you will see former posts of when I was not raw. LOL Just wanted to clear that up. I'm spending the next couple of days getting prepared with recipies, and food that I need. I'm really excited! I would love to meet other people who have gone raw, and how you made the transition. Books you read, things you did that helped, etc. So feel free to email me or leave me a comment!
